Iris oraqtoria (Linnaeus, 1758)
Mantodea: Tarachodidae
Common name: Mediterranean mantis

I. oratoria is very pale when young but matures to grass green, and grows to about 6.5 cm long. The species may be distinguished from Mantis religiosa and other mantids with which it shares a range and general size and shape by the red-orange spot on the ventral side of the fourth (second to last) abdominal segment; also, its cerci are shorter than those of M. religiosa. The species is distinctive in having two large startling violet-brown eyespots on its hind wings which are revealed when its wings are unfolded.
Iris oratoria is an insect predator (e.g. butterflies, flies, bees etc) and inhabits bushy, dry and warm places in low altitudes such as shrub-rich slopes, but also gardens. This was found to my garden on rosemary.

Hello Nikos,
Excellent macro in great sharpness and beautiful natural colours. Nice diagonal composition. Good DOF with this background.

Good capture, Nikos.
The elevated position of the subject gives it a great appearance.

Hi Nikos, excellent capture of this manthis with the best details in the right part, bright colors and nice contrast with the sky in background. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Nikos,
Beautiful set of photos, from which this one has the most serious visual impact. Taken from a spectacular PoV, with good use of lights, hence the semi-diagonal composition's very pleasant to the viewer, especially with such nice natural colors. Probably the edge of the frame at the left is a little too closed to the flower - otherwise a stunning photo.
Have a good Christmas, kind regards from Ireland, L獺szl籀
