The Kelp Goose is a coastal bird which is found around the Falkland Islands throughout the year.

The Kelp Goose mainly inhabits rocky coastlines, where it feeds primarily on green seaweed of the genus Ulva.

Their nests are made of grass lined with breast feathers, and situated behind the beach in tall grass or shrubbery. Between 4 and 7 eggs are laid from late October to early November.

Chicks hatch a month later, and are led from the nest to feed themselves. Adults watch over the chicks until they fledge in February.

The male has completely white plumage, making him prominent as he holds territory and stands guard over the incubating female or young chicks.

Happy Easter!

Nice shot. You have 2 extremes as subject in the same frame , one a black bird and the other is white which is a challege most of the times to get details oute in both of them! But you have done very well WRT exposure to get the details

Hello Sky

Another wonderful animal encounter.Very good detail and sharp focus. The difference between the sexes is very obvious ,very good to get a pair like this.I have never seen this type of goose before, so thanks for introducing me to a new one.Nicely composed in the frame.

Hello Sky,
Lovely details in the two beautiful birds!
Nice actions captured, in particular I like the one looking over the shoulder to find out what is going on behind...
Well exposed, fine details and vivid colours!

Hi Sky,
Excellent shot. Amazing to know the striking difference in the male and female plummage of the same species. Interesting pose for both of them. Perfect lighting control and sharp details. The ripples in the water adds so much to the shot. Very nicely composed and framed. Kudos.

Hello Sky,
Excellent work getting details in both the white and dark geese as this is difficult. The colors are nice and the point of view is very different. Thanks for sharing Sky.

Hi Sky,
A nice shot on this pair of Kelp Geese. A new one for me, we do not have them here in the central USA. A difficult exposure with all white to black plumage, but you handled it well. Colors and detail look great.

Hi Sky.
How well you managed to reflect all colour tones from white to black and save all details. Perfect done. Pictured scene is very cute as well as the upper POV, great reproduction of the wavy water and reflections. I also like excellent composition of the shot and its framing. My compliments and TFS.

Hello Sky,
They are beautiful birds and I think that this is the first time I see some... I like this POV and composition. Females are very different from male and this is much interesting to see! Thanks,
