AMERICAN ROBIN - MERLE D'AM仂IQUE - TURDUS MIGRATORIUS

Last winter (January), I was very surprised to meet an American Robin in my backyard. Habitualy these birds spend the winter on south but for this poor one, I think he missed the migration with his friends... I gave him some apples to eat but he is probably dead frosen :-(

The American Robin is 2328 cm (1011 in) long, averaging about 77 g (2.7 oz),[3] with a wingspan ranging from 119 to 137 millimeters.[3] In the wild, the longest known lifespan of an American Robin is 14 years,[3] but the average lifespan is about 2 years.[3] It has a brown back with a reddish-orange breast. It is white underneath the tail feathers and on the lower belly. The throat is white with black streaks, and males are generally brighter than females.[3] It has a small yellow beak and distinctive crescents around the eyes. There are seven sub-species, but only T. m. confinus in the southwest is particularly distinctive, with pale gray-brown underparts. Juveniles are paler in color than adult males and have dark spots on their breasts.[3]

During the breeding season, the adult males grow distinctive black feathers on their heads; after the breeding season they lose this eye-catching plumage.

Hi Claude,
this is very nice shot with nice details and sahrpness. fluffy plumage shows it must be cold. nice POV. TFS
well done
Ahmet

Boy... he certainly is all fluffed up to insulate himself from the cold. I hope he survived but one has to wonder how. I like the full frame image a lot. It is very sharp. I can see each feather. The wonderful color of the bird against the neutral background is striking.

bien jou Claude

Hello Claude!

Very nice shot POV, DOF and composition of this unusual scene! TFS.
But I think that you should have included the fullness of its tail.

Absolutly beautiful. Really nice with great colours, sharpness.
Best wishes,
Achim

Bonjour Claude,
A common bird, but an excellent image. Very nice pose, and the colours and focus are excellent. I like the tight crop, the diagonal of the robin in the frame, and the clever frame itself. Felicitations!

what a pretty and puffy robin, claude! :-)
yeah, i bet he was freezing the poor thing.
too bad we do not have them here in europe, they are so
pretty and colorful.
great capture with a terrific pose.
well done & take care, thor.

Bonjour Claude,

Cette grive semble geler sur la branche. Son plumage est bouffi et elle rentre le cou pour se prot嶲er du froid. La prise de vue permet de voir avec pr嶰ision les d彋ails de son plumage et ses couleurs. Joyeux No螔
