Pelophylax caralitanus (Anatolian Marsh Frog, Arikans Marsh Frog) [in Turk. Anadolu Ova/Bataklık Kurbağası] (Male)

Here is the last posts of this Anatolian handsome boy showing its total appearance (one from frontal POV was attached as a WS).

TFL and Cheers,

Bayram G秷MEN, All Rights Reserved.

Anatolian Marsh Frog is an endemic species of Turkey which is mainly widespread in the western parts of Central Anatolia (Konya, Ankara & Eskişehir provinces). It also known from some eastern parts of Aegean region, including Afyon, Isparta, Burdur, Muğla & Denizli provinces) and the northern parts of Antalya province (Mediterranean region) up to elevations approx. 1800 m. The specific name came after Beyşehir Lake, the former name of which is Lake Caralis which is the type locality of the species.

It is strongly aquatic, inhabits lakes, pools or slowly flowing streams with much or less vegetation. It stays in close proximity of water bodies. Food spectrum comprises various invertebrates, and, occasionally, also small vertebrates. The biology, general body shape and size (SVL up to 13 cm) are similar to other marsh frogs (Euro-Caucasian Common Mash frog Pelophylax ridibundus, Asiatic Levantine Marsh P. bedriagae and European Edible frog P. exculentus) by having dorsolateral skin folds, vertebral stripe (approx. 50%), two vocal sacs in males and no temporal stripes. However, this species is easily distinguished from all other similar species by having the vermiculate oronge coloured maculations covering the venters, including the ventral aspects of head, fore and hind extremities.

Selam my dear friend,
Another beautiful full body capture of this beautiful Anatolian Frog. Captured from a nice side POV. Good sharp details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hallo Bayram
I certainly hope it's not one of these you have to kiss in order to get a prince, because then I shall have to stay prince less all my days. Excellent sharpness, colours and point of view. A nice one indeed, must say the "wetlook" is quite glamorous. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hi Bareatom,

Wonderful shot of the Marsh Frog, great low POV, nice focus and background blur, excellent lights. I don't think I ever saw this species anywhere - no surprise, it doesn't feature on mycological sites or in books. :) Bombastic photo, I like it a lot. Bravo.
Best wishes, have a great sunday, L嫳zl

PS: as I see, no Anatolian Viper shot in your gallery. have you managed to find it?

Gnaydin Bayram dostum!
A very fine full frame-filling portrait of the Anatolian Marsh Frog taken from a fine lateral POV in superb lighting, with fine sharpness and natural colours.
If this were my shot I might have cloned away the reflection drops in the BG but that's a small point in what is a top class image.
Thanks and kind regards MF,

Selamlar sayın hocam,
renkler ve desenler yine mkemmel.
netlik harika.
g驆 teması ve karın b闤gesi desenleri 蔞k gzel.

Elinize ve emeğinize sağlık.

Selam ve saygılarımla,

Dear Bayram
What a strong animal!
Your notes are as always interesting - and I wonder - if his strong jumping thighs are related to the habitat, the marsh.

I add your work to my theme " F r o g s "
Thanks for sharing.
