Three big-sized green birds with large beaks visited my school campus this afternoon. They were up in a tree and mostly obstructed by the leaves. However, I got a couple of clear shots and here is the one which I thought would help in identifying it.
Ms Ruby of Kolkata, India, promptly identified the bird for me. However, she was a bit off the mark in the true ID of this bird which finally came from our erudite friend Ivan (Argus). Thanks, Ruby and Ivan!

The Brown-headed Barbet or Large Green Barbet, (Megalaima zeylanica) is an Asian barbet. Barbets and toucans are a group of near passerine birds with a worldwide tropical distribution. The barbets get their name from the bristles which fringe their heavy bills.

The Brown-headed Barbet is a resident breeder in India and Sri Lanka. It is an arboreal species of gardens and wooded country which eats fruit and insects. It nests in a tree hole, laying 2-4 eggs. The bird is largely frugivorous on mangos, ripe jack, papaya, banana and similar cultivated fruit trees. Its habitat includes urban and country gardens though it tends to eschew heavy forest. It nests in a suitable hole in a tree that it will often excavate out, not unlike a woodpecker. A pair will take it in turns to incubate the eggs and they often communicate with each other using their Kura, kura calls.

This is a relatively large barbet at 27 cm. It is a plump bird, with a short neck, large head and short tail.

The adult has a streaked brown head, neck and breast, with a yellow eye patch. The rest of the plumage is green. The bill is thick and red. Sexes are similar.

The White-cheeked Barbet largely replaces this species in the Western Ghats and hilly parts of southern peninsular India although both species may occur in many places. The calls of this species is similar but the white cheek patch is distinctive.

The call is a repetitive kutrookutrookutroo. Others take up the call when one starts. Somewhat silent in the winter.

Thanks for looking.

Nearly right Ram!
I mean the ID, not the quality of the image. The image iself is excellent, taken with fine sharpness and natural colours from a good POV that shows the Brown-headed Barbet (Megalaima zeylanica).
The pinkish bill and apricot-coloured bare patch round the eye are diagnostic.
Excellent composition, BG and lighting too.
Ihave seen this species in Goa but never got the chance to take such a fine shot!
Thanks and best regards,

Hello Mr. Ram,
Interesting species of bird, we have somo similar here, but I think this is more large and with more yellow arround the eyes. The POV is a bit diofficult but well solved. I like the light management hers, thes light BG is difficult to solve!... Well done!

Guten Tag Ram,
Interesting guests visiting your campus. You are spoiled! These birds have really a beautiful plumage with the fine green tints married with brownish and yellow color. From underneath your point of view, but the bird had seen the photographer.
I'm plunged in my reading of the "Mountains within", progressing slowly because of lack of vocabulary, especially of technical descriptions. Love it, this life reminds me of my grandfather's time. How close montain-people can be!
Kind regards

Good day Prof. Ram,
Beautiful and colorful capture of this interesting specimen.Great pose of the bird, wonderful colors and great sharpness.
Thank You,
Best regards
